Ready, Reset, Go…

Jeff, our office tech expert often tells me, “Just reboot your computer and that will probably fix it.” What? All I had to do was turn it off, and then back on again? Many people never turn ‘it’ off. They are always on, just like with my computer. They never turn it off. Let’s talk about it. Ready, RESET, Go…

Nothing like a cold splash of water in the face to refresh you. Ready, Reset, Go...

Run It Into The Ground

This phrase means to ruin or destroy, as in taking something (your life, a car, a business, a good thing) and ruining it by going non-stop! This alludes to pushing something so far that it is, in effect, buried. Ran into the ground. Ready, Reset, Go…

This also implies that proper maintenance, long-term maintenance, has not been maintained. In reality, long-term maintenance is a process of smaller steps applied for short-term maintenance. And then ever so often, a long-term maintenance action must be applied.

Putting It Off and Keeping Busy

Okay, so I ran most of my life this way. I would always push it to the limit. And many times I would do this at the last minute – procrastination. I was going to write a book on how to be good at procrastination but I thought people would be put off by it (that’s a dad joke).

Other times we just run circles around ourselves. And around our family, our work or business, and life as a whole. We call this busyness. Being busy is not good. We want to be productive, not busy. Busy is spinning our wheels. Productive is taking us closer to our goals.

Vacation Recovery

People even have to take time off to recover from their vacations. Even vacations wear people out because they are so busy on their vacation.

Ready, RESET, Go…

To be ready to go, you have to reset. It is a simple habit to incorporate into your life. Just take a break every 15-20 minutes, no matter what you are doing. You can either move on to something else and come back to a task later, or you can just walk away and take a break. Come back and (re)think about what you were doing. This will keep it fresh.

I try to make sure I take several 15 minute breaks a day to just walk away from everything. I clear my mind by going to a store within walking distance or go get coffee. And rarely do I miss a lunch break (I try not to do a working lunch unless absolutely necessary).

The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions

Good Intentions? So it is with excuses as to why you are too busy to get anything done.

“He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.”

― Benjamin Franklin

When my wife and I still had our business, I remember a customer calling us and telling us our employees weren’t mopping the floors. We had been servicing their facility for about six months and never had a complaint. So we said we would follow up. Everything checked out, our employees had been mopping.

So we educated the customer. Mopping is only short-term maintenance. With textured floors, even the mopping wasn’t going to get all the dirt everytime. We extended Amazing customer service by offering to machine scrub their tile flooring to show them the difference it would make. Shazam! Their floors looked like new again. After that, they agreed to a maintenance program for their floors.

Maintenance Program For A Healthy Life

In the same way with this story about floor maintenance, we must maintain our lives by resetting on regular intervals. We must do this daily, weekly, monthly and year to year.

First Step

Acts 3:19 AMP
So repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins] and return [to God—seek His purpose for your life], so that your sins may be wiped away [blotted out, completely erased], so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord [restoring you like a cool wind on a hot day];

You have to first reset with God. So this is the first step to that everyday kind of life you hear me so often talk about. There is nothing so refreshing than walking in His presence as a part of your daily life.

Second Step

Romans 15:32 MSG
I’ll be on my way to you with a light and eager heart, looking forward to being refreshed by your company.

Connect. Being connected. Reconnecting. Being in the company of other believers brings times of refreshing. Not only do we need to do this, but we need to put ourselves, our lives, in a place where we are refreshing to others.

Third Step

I John 1:9 AMP
If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].

Long-term Maintenance is key. Staying in the presence of Jesus in our everyday life, every step of the way. Keeping it fresh is the key. If I ignore my wife for a day that will throw up some red flags to her. And then I need to go to her and tell her I’m sorry for blowing it.

Same with Jesus. We can’t just ignore Him. If we do, that is a red flag in our relationship with Him. We need to make it right with Him. This keeps our relationship fresh with Him. We need to reset.

Challenge of the Week

Get ready! You can do that by Resetting your life. If you haven’t already, reset your life with Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Send me an email and I’ll walk you through the simple steps of doing that. And if you already have, reset that beautiful relationship with Jesus everyday. What one step do you need to take this week to refresh your life? Ready, Reset, Go… and So be it!
