Your Everyday Life Podcast feat. Melissa Weeks – a Battle with Cancer
This is about your ordinary everyday kind of life with Jesus, feat. Melissa Weeks and her battle with cancer. This was anything but ordinary. Remember that God is good – He is always good.
Through her battle over the past 2 years, she has gone through 2 ileostomies, 2 take downs, 3 ileuses, 2 abdominal abscesses, stomach pumping, 3 abdominal drainage tubes, a port insertion and removal, a bile duct stent which triggered pancreatitis, TPN through IV as my only source of nutrition for 5 months, 4 different chemotherapies, chemotherapy intolerance, hair loss, weight loss down to 92 pounds, and she almost died 4 times.
After all of that, Melissa says,
This is a story of God’s encouragement through His word in Melissa’s journey with Him, every step of the way. And to know, God’s Word came to her through the Bible and many others that God brought along Melissa’s path.
Who is Melissa Weeks
Melissa is married to Lee and they will be celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary in October. They have 3 daughters- Audrey (25), Caitlin (22), and Mattie (18), two son-in-laws- Reed and Drew, and 1 grandson- Tucker. They are one of those rare couples in that the more time they spend together the happier they are.
Lee and Melissa work together. Since 2015 they have owned and operated an Office Pride franchise business in Huntsville, AL. Prior to that, Melissa was an elementary school teacher for 10 years, primarily in kindergarten. Lee worked with Lowe’s for 15 years, with his last position being the District Manager over North AL. They attend Rivertree Church and enjoy spending quality time with their family going hiking, camping, and boating.
The Impact of God’s Word – God is Good
Watch the podcast for her full story. But here is a little more to the story. Melissa has two scriptures that impacted her. This first one was while awaiting test and scan results:
Psalm 112:7
He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
If that isn’t encouraging to others about one’s trust and dependence on the Lord – Wow! This is what Melissa said about the second scripture, “I can remember being at my lowest low and praying, “Lord, I am reaching out to touch Your robe,” believing wholeheartedly that He would heal me even though I felt like I could close my eyes and be done.”
The scripture about the woman who reached out and touched the robe of Jesus:
Mark 5:34
And Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well, go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
And again Melissa says, “God is Good – He is Always Good.” She says she believes He has healed her although her scans will never confirm. Regarding this statement Melissa said,
After the Story
The story continues. Melissa continues to be very involved with greater purpose and passion than ever. The business she and her husband Lee own is a big part of their ministry. Too much to share here, but she continues to have Kingdom Impact along with Lee and their daughters.
In sharing her story, Melissa is not afraid to share how real and how low the valley was during this time in her life. As hard as it is for her, here are a few pics she wanted to share:
When it’s all said and done for Melissa, this Erma Bombeck quote comes to mind for her:
“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.”

Wow, what a journey! 😢 But through it all God was with her. 🙌❤️ Very touching testimony. Sorry that she had to travel that hard road, but so thankful she knew God, who helped her through to where she’s at today. He said He’d never leave or forsake us. That’s precious that He told her she was going to be okay, and she knew which ever way He meant it she was going to be okay. Amen! You truly are blessed Melissa!
