Remember being in gym class as a kid? Remember how it felt like an eternity waiting to be picked? Yes? No? Maybe not. In the famous words of John C. Maxwell, “Teamwork makes the dream work”.

Or maybe you are a bit of a loner. Maybe no one can do whatever as good as you can. Maybe you feel like you don’t need anyone. You are an island unto yourself.
What about when you became a little older? Your co-workers and friends? Your person, partner in crime, ride or die?
What if Jesus became an option? Would you pick him? Or would you bypass Him? Maybe you don’t know who Jesus is. Maybe it’s not cool to pick Him.
Team Scarmen
So Scott and I are DIY til we die, Team Scarmen (Scott + Carmen = Scarmen). We truly enjoy a good project. A project that challenges and stretches us. Almost to our detriment some days. We have something pretty cool in the works for Mariposa, but it requires us to do some extensive prep work before that cool thing can happen.
Scott is the one with the ingenuity and know-how of carpentry, electrical, framing, drywall hanging, some plumbing, etc. I am the mudding, tiling, caulking, patching, painting, and planting Chica. My jam though is creative and visionary of all things aesthetic. Apart we can do some pretty cool things, but together, well that is where the magic happens.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NIV
Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Let’s take it a step further. What would it be like if we picked Jesus to be on our team? Do you know that Jesus is waiting for us to pick Him? He wants nothing more than to be a part of our team.
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
I’ll give you a real-life scenario. As I mentioned before, Scott and I were working on some projects this weekend. We COULD NOT find some of our batteries for our Ryobi tools. We looked everywhere. If I had a dime for all the time we spent looking for something we knew we had but couldn’t remember where we put it….I’d definitely have a dollar or two.
We started looking for the batteries yesterday. We looked a couple of times today. Scott asked me about them ONE more time. We were in the shed making enough room to do some cutting in there as it had been a rainy Florida day. So I head back into the house, and literally, as I walk through the door I pray, “God, PLEASE help me find the batteries. As I finish my short prayer, I look to my right, and I’m looking at the Ryobi angle grinder sitting on my Ikea footstool, and this knowing comes over me. Ahhh…they are inside the footstool. I leaned down and reached into the footstool and YEP, there they were!
Colossians 3:17 AMP
Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Team Jesus
If you don’t know Jesus or you don’t believe in Him, you might think that finding the batteries was a coincidence. But I don’t believe in coincidences. I used to, but that was before I knew Him. I know Him. I FINALLY turned to Him. I invited Him into my life. He is there for me and Scott, and those who love Him. He makes miracles happen big and small. He fills our hearts and fills in where we lack because NOTHING is impossible with Jesus.
Challenge of the Week From Martin Luther King, Jr.

“I am convinced that men hate each other because they fear each other. They fear each other because they don’t know each other, and they don’t know each other because they don’t communicate with each other, and they don’t communicate with each other because they are separated from each other.“
Much more can be accomplished together – not separate. This is not a question. And many, like Dr. King have figured out that this is a biblical concept set forth by God from the foundation of the world and the foundation of His word – Teamwork makes the dream work. So be it!
