Experience the Difference

Yesterday morning, something special happened on the grounds of Chateau Mariposa. As the morning began, men gathered outdoors to worship and pray. No titles, positions, or expectations to perform or impress. Just men lifting their voices together as one to their Heavenly Father. The men gathered to experience the difference of becoming a King.

Experience the difference sitting at the King's table.
Sitting at the King’s table.

We came together as sons of God, crying out to our Father, asking Him to draw us closer, restore our hearts, and continue shaping us into the men He created us to be.

As I reflected on our time together, one thought kept coming back.

When God restores the heart of a man, he isn’t the only one who experiences the difference.

We’ve been walking through Morgan Snyder’s book, Becoming a King, in our men’s ministry, The Forge. It’s a journey of discovering what it means to become the kind of man God intended us to be.

But here’s something worth considering.

What if becoming a king isn’t really about the man himself?

What if it’s also about everyone whose life is touched by this man? We often measure a man’s success by what he builds, what he earns, or what he accomplishes. But perhaps God measures his influence by what happens in the lives of those around him.”

A Restored Heart Changes a Home

Think about the difference between a man who feels he must control everything and a man who has learned to surrender his heart to God.

One leads from fear, pride, or insecurity. The other is learning to lead from love, humility, and confidence in who he is as a son of God.

A wife experiences the difference when her husband listens to understand rather than simply responds to defend himself.

Children experience the difference when their father is present, patient, and intentional rather than distracted, distant, or demanding.

And those closest to him experience the difference when he is willing to say, “I was wrong. Will you forgive me?”

A restored heart doesn’t produce a perfect man. It produces a man who is willing to let God continue working on the parts of his heart that need healing.

And that changes the atmosphere of a home.

A Restored Heart Changes a Workplace

The ripple doesn’t stop at the front door.

A man whose heart is being restored begins to see leadership differently.

Success becomes less about recognition and more about responsibility. Authority becomes less about control and more about service. People become more than a means to accomplish a goal.

He leads with integrity when no one is watching. He takes responsibility when things go wrong. And he encourages others rather than feeling threatened by their success.

Whether he’s a business owner, manager, employee, or coworker, people begin to experience something different in their interactions with him.

Not because he’s suddenly become the smartest or most successful person in the room.

But because his heart is changing.

A Restored Heart Changes a Community

And then the ripple reaches even further.

A restored man begins to recognize that his influence extends beyond his family and his work.

He sees opportunities to serve rather than waiting to be served. He notices people who are struggling. And he becomes more generous with his time, his resources, and his encouragement.

He understands that his kingdom isn’t defined by what he owns or how many people answer to him.

His kingdom is the sphere of influence God has entrusted to his care – His marriage, family, friendships, workplace, neighborhood, and his community.

And the way he stewards those relationships matters.

It Begins With Being a Son

Yesterday morning, we were reminded of the words found in Romans 8:15:

“The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.'”

Before we can become the kings God desires us to be, we must first understand what it means to be His sons.

We don’t have to carry every burden alone. We don’t have to pretend we have everything figured out. And we don’t have to allow the wounds of our past to dictate the men we become.

We have a Heavenly Father who invites us to draw near, surrender our hearts, and allow Him to restore what has been broken. And as He does, something beautiful begins to happen.

Our wives experience the difference.

Our children experience the difference.

And our coworkers, friends, neighbors, and communities experience the difference.

Not because we’ve become perfect men, but because we’re becoming men whose hearts are being transformed by a perfect Father.

And perhaps that’s one of the greatest reasons for a man to pursue this journey.

Because a restored heart doesn’t just change a man. It changes the way he touches the world around him.

A Great Thought

The true measure of a man’s kingdom isn’t found in what he controls or accomplishes, but in the lives that are better because his heart belongs to God.

Challenge of the Week

This week, take a moment to consider the people within your sphere of influence. Are they experiencing the difference that God is making in your heart? Ask yourself: What is one area of my life where I need to allow God to continue restoring my heart so that others can experience the difference? And you don’t have to be a man for this to apply. So be it.

And remember, restoration isn’t a destination. It’s a journey of drawing nearer to the Father, one day at a time.
