A Clanging Cymbal

Before a clanging cymbal starts creating any noise, I want you to know I stole (borrowed) this from a post my beautiful wife did this past week. So then, here it is:

I used to think the masses’ “attorney mentality” created by “you may be entitled to a huge settlement/payoff” was the rallying cry (the mantra, if you will) of modern-day society. As I take a closer look, I realize it’s a problem of “me.” “You may be entitled” has been translated as “I am entitled.” It all sounds like a clanging cymbal.

I dare say the number one pronouns are I, ME, MINE.

Captain Hook knows the mantra.

A Clanging Cymbal – What Is In It For Me

  • I am entitled.
  • Someone owes me.
  • How does this affect me?
  • And, why should I care?

We live in a world where people can’t see past themselves. We have become incapable of listening to others, much less empathizing with how they feel. And thanks to social media and algorithms, we don’t have to! It eliminates anything and everything that does not align with the way “I think.” Society is intolerant of any other view or perspective because we make it about ourselves.

We. Make. It. About. “ME!”

When we make it about “me” we are so easily offended by pretty much anything and everything. Then if it doesn’t agree with our thinking or POV then we can’t hear it, won’t see it, much less try to understand it.

Today, and always, I will look to God’s word…

If I speak in the tongues of men or angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

I Corinthians 13:1 NIV

Love Has Many Facets – It Is Not a Clanging Cymbal

I keep coming back to LOVE because…

  • Love celebrates
  • Love comforts
  • Love understands
  • Love sees
  • Love listens
  • Love puts others first
  • Love guides

1 Peter 4:8 NIV

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

In this world speak LOVE. Be fluent in it.

Challenge of the Week

Do not be a clanging cymbal. But love. You’ve been programmed. Do a paradigm shift. Rewire your brain. Renew your mind with the Word of God. LOVE will then be allowed to transcend your past biases and do things you couldn’t have done before. What will be your love story this week? Don’t be a clanging cymbal. So be it!
