Your Everyday Life Podcast feat. Paul Bertsch – A Fisher of Men
Matthew 4:18b-19 NIV
They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
Paul has dedicated his life to fishing. Recreationally he is a pretty good fisherman of Bass and Crappie. He also lives every part of his life, his everyday life, reflecting Christ, being a fisherman of people.
About Paul Bertsch
Paul grew up in the Midwest of the United States. Indiana to be exact. He did his undergrad degree at the University of Evansville and his master’s degree at Ball State in Psychology. Paul and his wife Roxy have been married for 33 years. They have two children, Dylan, 29, and Grace 23.
Paul became a Christian in 1980 and got involved in a campus ministry at UE shortly afterward. In InterVarsity he was discipled in the life of following Jesus. How to study scripture, how to share my faith, how to wrestle with tough questions, and how to learn to live all of life under Christ’s leadership. His experience in InterVarsity was impactful enough that he has worked with InterVarsity (IV) full-time since 1985.
IV helps Christian students experience deep discipleship. They help students explore their encounters with Jesus. Paul has served students at Indiana State, Rose-Hulman, UE, Franklin College, and more. Currently, he serves as an Area Director for InterVarsity living in Bloomington, IN. In addition, he supervises a staff team of four at Indiana University, Franklin College, and Oakland City University.
Paul dreams to see young people (18-22) get a foundational experience in Christian discipleship. One that is emotionally healthy, wholistic, Jesus-centered, and sustainable.
