Dependency – The Path to World-Overcoming Faith

Once again today, more on encouraging words regarding dependency – the path to World-Overcoming faith.  Yesterday we looked at how our faith comes from God, because faith comes from hearing the word of God.  We can even substitute the word of God with or for the word faith.

Faith is the path to growing our dependency on God.

So in 2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight”  we could actually say, “For we walk by the word of God, not by sight.”

So, let’s talk about a few steps you can begin to take in order to develop your faith.  First, here are a few other ways to say ‘develop your faith’:

  • Develop your walk
  • make your walk stronger
  • become more dependent on Jesus
  • get to know Jesus better
  • building world-overcoming faith
  • <<your words here – write below in the comments>>

The Path to World-Overcoming Faith

  • Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom. 10:17)
    • So first step – get into God’s word.  The more you know His written word, the easier it is to hear and know His spoken word.  If you don’t know His word, or in other words, if you haven’t spent time walking with Him, you can’t know Him which means you can’t depend on Him.
    • Quote from Larry Boa, “Leaders depend on those they trust.”  How do you know what to trust God with, or how to trust Him, if you don’t know Him.  We tend to do things on our own (trust in ourselves) if we have the option to trust someone we don’t know.  Point is, you can’t trust someone you don’t know.  Good training on this is Covey’s book, The Speed of Trust. There are a lot of parallel’s spiritually.
  • Now walk by faith (2 Cor. 5:7)
    • So you get to know the Word of God, then you walk by the word of God…. Or walk by faith.

Just Two Baby Steps

So two simple steps (hear and walk) to go from ‘brand new baby’ faith when you first accepted Christ as your Lord based on the measure of faith (measure of God’s word) you were given, to learning more of the word of God.  The more you learn it, the more you develop it, and then eventually you will have world-overcoming faith. Start with baby-steps.

Taking first steps with Jesus is like learning to walk. It takes time to develop.

It’s that simple.  Oh, but there’s a third step….let’s save that for tomorrow.  For now, you are on your way. Dependency – The path to World-Overcoming faith.

Challenge for today – Do step one, then step two from above.  Then do it again, step one and then step two.  Then wash, rinse and repeat.  Here we come World-Overcoming Faith. So be it!
