God’s GPS – How To Not Be Lost

I think that most would agree that God’s will for us is key. It is key to our life and how it should be lived. Wouldn’t God’s GPS – how to not be lost, would be nice to know?

GPS -
A Map of God’s Will

Hang On For The Ride

We have all asked, or heard someone we know ask, “What is God’s will for me?” This is the question they ask about their journey in life with God.

The parallel question others ask is, “What is my purpose in life?” Now this one is the question asked by those questioning life, and probably not even connected with God. Even more specifically, these folks are questioning why they even exist.

Romans 12:2 AMP

And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on God’s Word], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].

What God’s Word (The Bible) Says

God says, “Do not be foolish, but understand what my will is (understand what I want).”  This then leads me to believe it is not only possible to know the will of God, but that we need to know it.  Otherwise, we are foolish.

And get this! If we then know His will, we will then have confidence that if we ask anything according to his will, He hears us.  He hears us!

I ask you the obvious question, then.  If we don’t know His will, then we are not asking according to His will. Does this mean He does not hear us?

Maybe it is not that He doesn’t hear us. But if it is not according to His will, then He can’t execute it.  In other words, He cannot operate outside of His own word – or outside of His will.

You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly. And to spend it on your own desires and not in line with His.

And, we also know that if you don’t know God, He doesn’t listen to sinners. But if anyone is a worshiper of God (knows God) and does his will, God listens to him.

A Few Specifics Regarding God’s Will

Do Good

For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

Give Thanks…and Rejoice

Rejoice always, pray all the time, give thanks no matter what happens. This is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you to walk in.

Abstain from The Kind of Sex That Is Out of Bounds

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality – live a pure life.

His Will For You Is To Direct You

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

God’s Promises From Living In His Will

And the world is passing away along with its desires – none of this lasts.  But whoever does the will of God, he and what he does abides forever. And if you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish. It will be done for you.

If you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.

For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life. And I will raise him up on the last day. Yes, this is good. And it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior. He desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

God isn’t late with his promise, as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone to be lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change. Oh Lord, how we need you…

Walking in His will doesn’t always mean clarity ahead of time. Often, God reveals His will step-by-step as we follow Him in trust and obedience. Like a lamp to our feet, His Word guides us—enough for the next faithful step.

Psalm 119:105 NIV

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

So trust, for the next step, is so important. Trust Him. Trust His Will for you.

Challenge of the Week

What is God’s will for my life? It’s a question many believers ask—especially when facing decisions, uncertainty, or change. But Scripture shows us that God’s will is not meant to be mysterious or hidden. It’s revealed as we walk with Him and trust Him. Allow your mind and heart to be shaped by His Word. The challenge is this – to be in God’s word and to Trust God’s word. So be it.
