Are you struggling? The good news is – hang on, help is on its way! I remember one of my favorite songs back in high school was by The Little River Band, Help Is On Its Way. I think you can make a message out of a series of song titles and lines from songs if you wanted. Because now I am thinking of Head East and their song Never Been Any Reason that says, “save my life I’m going down for the last time.” But wait. Hang on, help is on its way!
And all of you who are younger than 50 or so, hang in there. I am reminiscing of my music from back in the 70’s. The fact is many are hanging on to the hope that somewhere, somehow, help is on its way.
There was research done with mice where one test group was put into a tub of water to see how long they could last. At the 12-minute mark they all drowned. So another group was tested. At just a second before the 12-minute mark, just as it seemed they would drown, a net swooped them up and saved them. This second group was given time to recover. Once recovered they were put back in the tub again.
Guess what? This time the mice lasted just over 20 minutes before they drowned. Why? They had the hope that something, that net, was going to swoop them up if they could last just a little longer.
Note: No mice were hurt in writing this post.
All Hope is Lost
Many people have lost their hope. Some even feel ALL hope is lost. They have been let down by many, and may have themselves made one too many wrong turns in their life. Even Christians lose their way and their hope at times.
It is a desperate feeling when feeling like you are going down for the last time. And as you are going down, you feel as though there is no safety net there to catch you or swoop you up. But there is hope. So hang on, help is on its way!
Isaiah 41:13 MSG
Because I, your God, have a firm grip on you and I’m not letting go.
I’m telling you, ‘Don’t panic. I’m right here to help you.’
If you have hope, faith is the substance (real physical matter) of it. Faith is the Word of God. So the Word of God is what gives hope substance (makes it real). Hope without faith or hope without the Word of God is just wishful thinking (no substance). That is why many have their hopes dashed. It has no substance. In other words, their hope is not in God or His Word. And remember in John 1:14, “The Word became flesh” and He (Jesus) dwelt among us.
This makes Jesus our real hope because He is the Living Word of God!
Challenge of the Day: If you feel lost and without hope, seek a friend out and ask for help. God works through others. If you don’t know who to reach out to, then email me (scott@youreverydaylife.org) and let us connect. Your life and your eternity is worth it. Help is on its way. So be it!
