I need you, you need me, we need each other. But more than anything else, we need Jesus. Jesus, I need you.
Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs
Did you know that Maslow discovered this thing he calls, Hierarchy of Needs? Okay, but did you know that he didn’t invent it? It already existed. All he did was identify what God already built within us.
Lord I Need You
Self-Actualization – You built in me the desire to become the most (the best) I can be. I thank you Jesus that you gave me the strengths, abilities, and gifts to become all that you created me to be.
Esteem – I need self-esteem, respect, status, recognition, strength, and freedom. Thank you for lifting me up and bringing others across my path that lift me up so that I know I am special, a unique individual who has value to the Kingdom and others around me.
Love and Belonging – Even when I am sulking and wanting to be alone, I desire a close friend to reach out, intimacy, family, and a sense of connection. Lord, I need you. Help me to not let my pride separate me.
Safety – There are times I feel very vulnerable and exposed. I thank you Jesus in how you brought safety to those who were exposed and who are exposed. And thank you for personal security, provision through employment, resources, health, and my personal belongings and property. I need you as my provider and strong tower.
Physiological – You told us Lord that you provide for even the birds. I need my daily provisions, Lord. Thank you for the air, water, food, shelter, sleep, clothing, and for fulfilling my need to be needed and wanted.
Matthew 6:26 NIV
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Been There Done That
I can’t tell you the times that I’ve cried out to the Lord because I desperately needed Him. I don’t know if you feel like I do in times of desperate need. It’s like being on that lonely desert road. Been there:
- The break-ups
- Job losses
- Accusations (legal and non-legal)
- Bad Perceptions
- Wayward spouse (past life as I like to call it)
- Debt
- Jaded
- Prideful
- I’ve even been in two fights (back in my teen years)
- Death of parents, inlaws, and other family
- And finally, the all too famous “and more!”
Great Needs
I’ve certainly been in positions of great need. Thank God that Jesus is always there.
Philippians 4:19 KJV
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Just Some of Your Need?
Notice this verse doesn’t just say some of your need. It says, “He shall supply ALL of your need.” Whatever your need is, He will supply all of it! Our biggest need? Forgiveness. And guess what? He (Jesus) completely paid the debt for our sin. Not just part of it, but all of it. It’s only by grace that we can receive it. There is nothing we can do to earn it.
Challenge of the Week
Commit your need to Jesus. Once you do, don’t drag it back with you. Leave it with Him and trust Him with it. What is the need most on your heart right now? Once you give it to Him start moving forward as if that need is met even if it doesn’t seem like it, look like it, or feel like it. He’s got it! So be it!
