I Want To Know Your Heart

Ever fall in love with someone? You want to know everything about them. You want to know their heart. When Carmen and I first met we lived an hour and a half apart. Back then you only had so many minutes on your cell phone plan, but after 9 pm your minutes were free. We talked almost nightly after 9 pm. I wanted to know all I could about her. I wanted to know her heart. Today let us search for the heart of God. Let that be our prayer. “God, I want to know your heart.”

A Childlike Heart

I want the photo above to be a picture of this 61-year-old man’s heart – my heart. I want it to be a picture of my childlike heart for God. Children are totally dependent on their parents for all their needs. Their food, clothing, training, and protection – a place to feel totally safe, secure, and provided for. The cool thing about kids is they don’t worry about any of this. They just know that it will be taken care of. Do you know God’s heart that well?

A Child’s Trust and Love

Where does a child run when they are hurt? What about when they are afraid? Children, in a healthy (I didn’t say perfect) family, totally depend on and trust their mom and dad. They know their parents love them. They have a high level of trust.

Also, children are like sponges. They soak up everything. Yikes! That’s why we should train them up in the way “they should go” and be careful in what we do and say. Children, so to speak, take their parent’s word as gospel.

To Know the Heart of God

So to have a heart as a child is to soak up the guidance, training, benefits, and blessings of the word of God. His word reveals his heart. His actions reveal His heart.

To be in love with God is to know His heart. Have the heart of a child in your relationship with your heavenly Father. To know Him, to know His heart, is to totally fall in love with Him. How could you not? Knowing who He is will allow you to totally trust Him, depend on Him, and receive from Him all that you need.

Let David Leonard’s song Know Your Heart inspire you to know the heart of God…

Challenge of the Week

Post a comment below about one thing you have learned about God’s heart. In fact, do one for each day of the week! Google “the heart of God” and see what you can find in the scripture related to that. And now, here’s the bigger challenge – reflect the heart of God in some way to others each of those five days. Jesus reflected the heart of the Father like no other. Now it’s your turn. So be it.
