It is not about what you see or what you hear, but what you are standing on. Is what you are standing on a false sense of security? Or is what you are standing on a solid foundation? It is what you are standing on that determines your success, your security, your life!
That Sounds Good to Me
You can’t trust your instincts (your gut feeling) if it violates God’s Word/Instructions. Or any and every other thing you hear for that matter. We hear from the Almighty WWW (the internet), and even from someone who heard from someone who had a reliable source who said. That’s where your journey, the longer you have been with God, really benefits you over others. You learn to respond instead of reacting and use wisdom rather than, “well that sounds good to me.”
Genesis 3:1-6 niv
1Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
We Learn in One of Three Ways
- The easy way – learning from other’s mistakes
- The hard way – learning from our own mistakes
- The tragic way – not learning from either!
The Truth Gets Distorted
Like the Serpent in the scripture above, there is a lot of distortion of the truth or in the right way to do something. Sometimes the destination is a good and right destination, but the fruit we partook of, or the foundation we were standing on, was the wrong way to get there.
Let’s depend on God to get there, to our goals and dreams, the right way. Don’t be lured away from depending on God. There is a way that seems right to a man, but…
Always come back to your Biblical foundation. One of my favorite songs comes to mind. It is from Big Tent Revival – Two sets of Jones’. Take a moment to listen.
Challenge of the Week
Do Not just go to church once or twice a week and be lured into thinking you are now really spiritual. Build your relationship with Jesus in your every-day-walking-around-kind-of-life. Build that strong foundation on the rock of Christ Jesus – with every step of your everyday life. Let that be your foundation, your security, your life. So be it!
