I often hear people wondering what their purpose is in this life. I really believe I can help answer that. You must remember that we are all on our own journey with the Lord. You were made for more. But following there are a few things to keep in mind.

You Were Made
Before I get to Purpose, know that God Himself made you.
Psalm 139:13 AMP
For You formed my innermost parts; You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb.
He created you, and He created me. Wow! He breathed life into us. That same breath He used to speak the world into existence.
Genesis 1:27 MSG
God created human beings; he created them godlike,
Reflecting God’s nature. He created them male and female.
Not All That We Were Made To Be
Though that is true that He created us, we live in a broken and sinful world. And that started all the way back in the garden. We have all fallen short. Sin and brokenness have worked their way through the generations to and beyond the very existence of me and you.
Romans 3:23 NASB
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
James 4:17 NIV
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
Now Jesus…
Now, this is where Jesus comes into the picture. He took our sins upon Himself. Then He sacrificed Himself for our sins. So He offered Himself as the sin-sacrifice. And He placed us back in right standing with God. Why? Well, because He desires a personal relationship.
There are some things we need to keep in perspective. First, there is NEVER anything we can do to earn (something we do on our own) to be in the right standing with God. It’s not possible. The Bible tells us that on our own it is impossible to please (be in right standing with) God.
We have fallen short. And we can’t earn right standing with God, or earn our way into heaven. But we can accept what Christ has done for us (His sacrifice), believe that, and confess that, to be in right standing with Him.
Romans 10:9 NASB
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
Ephesians 2:8 MSG
Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing!
Now The Good, Hard Work
Now it’s time for us to get to work. This has become, as some of you know, my spiritual goal each year – to become better at who He created me to be. He built the foundation for us. So now it’s time to get to work, figure out what our gifts (strengths) are, grow in them, and go make a difference (our purpose). See Become Better At Who You Are for more great details on this.
Our Purpose
Two things:
- To walk in a relationship with Him;
- and to share that relationship with others.
Become more like Him in who He created us to be. And then as we become more LIKE Him, reflect that to others.
John 3:16 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Challenge of The Week
The challenge is to grasp that you were made for more. Because it is time to rise up in who He created you to be. Challenge yourself to become all He created you to be. Think of one thing this week that you see as a strength or gift God has put in you. So, now it’s time to go learn how to use it well. Use it to make an impact on your world for the love of God. You were made for more! So be it.
