If you can’t see anything good about your life, then darkness is blocking your vision. In other words, you need light. Light is needed for the eye of the heart to see the truth of who you are from God’s word.
Darkness (noun) – The total absence of light.
Let’s talk about the feelings darkness causes when someone is living in it. Of course, there are various degrees, but some common feelings are lostness, anxiety, fear, sadness, emptiness, loss, depression, despair, shame, uncertainty, and probably much more.
As I was researching for this blog I found it interesting how many articles (writers/authors) on depression and darkness told people how they should feel. It was as if these ‘experts’ were speaking words of darkness, hopelessness, and lostness to people who thought they may be depressed. And if the readers weren’t sure before, now they were certain saying, “Yep, that’s me!”
The Light Brings Clarity
When someone is living in any level of darkness, the focus is negative. The negativity causes them to begin to spiral. They need light to see their way out of it.
Just this past year, I decided to tackle the lens cover on the headlights of my Jeep Wrangler as my headlights seemed dim. I had to spend quite a bit of time ‘polishing’ the lenses to bring the clarity of the light(s) back. Once I completed the process, I could clearly see again with my Jeep headlights showing the way.
If we want clarity in our life we really need to know Jesus. Two quick tips on this:
- Spend time with Him. This means acknowledging Him to start your day, to end your day, and every step along the day.
- Know the Word of God – both written and spoken (backed and confirmed by the written)
This is important because the Word of God is light. Jesus is the light of the world. When we are in Christ, we are not only in the light, but we ARE the light.
So when we are in God’s word, we are bringing clarity to Jesus in our life. Our view is becoming less clouded or shadowed by darkness. We then begin to focus on the light, which is positive. We begin to clarify not only who He is, but who we are in Him.
300-600 Times
Depending on the version of the Bible you check, the word “light” or a form of it is used 300-600 times. The more light we have, the easier it is to overcome and eliminate darkness, negativity, and depression in our life.
So we know darkness is the absence of light. When there is light in a room, darkness cannot be present. But in a room full of darkness, even the smallest light can show the way.
John 1:1-8, 9, 14 AMP
In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. 2 He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God. 3 All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. 4 In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].
6 There came a man commissioned and sent from God, whose name was [d]John. 7 This man came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe [in Christ, the Light] through him. 8 John was not the Light, but came to testify about the Light.
9 There it was—the true Light [the genuine, perfect, steadfast Light] which, coming into the world, enlightens everyone.
14 And the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is] full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception)
Challenge of the Week
Be in the light, walk in the light, and be the light. Be in the Word, walk in the Word, speak the Word. Jesus is the Light and the Word. You are the Light and living in the Word. So be it!
If this spoke to you, this will too:
