The Trust Walk. It’s about a journey. It’s about an everyday-walking-around-kind-of-life with Jesus. The problem isn’t trusting Jesus. Or is it? How much do you act like you trust Jesus?
Or is the problem trusting His people. And just plain ole trusting people no matter who they represent or claim to be. Have you been burned by someone? I have – and a so-called best friend.
Trust (noun):
- a: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something
- b: one in which confidence is placed
Being Blindly Led
Ever done the Trust Walk? It’s where there are two of you (hopefully trusted friends). One is blindfolded. The other leads their blindfolded friend on a walk. The blindfolded friend has to follow the voice of their friend. They have to follow their directions. No touching allowed in being led.
What if they lead you right into a tree? Or maybe it gets real quiet and you wonder if they have disappeared? Are they leading you even through the small things? What if I step on, or what if I step off of something? Are they really watching out for me? There are lots of doubts that can run through your head.
The way you walk shows how much you trust in what the other person says as they guide you. The way you walk (see the Challenge verse below) in/with Christ shows how much you trust in what God says, how much you trust in His word. Ouch!
Psalm 37:5 MSG
Open up before God, keep nothing back;
he’ll do whatever needs to be done:
Fully Trusting
Trust in others is something that takes time. The other will prove that you can trust them. To fully trust, you must fully let go.
You may have done this before. Warning – don’t do this with people you don’t trust! Stand on the edge of a table with your back to the edge. Have three people standing side by side across from three other people, one side facing the other. Now have them connect hands, forming a human safety net. Now on the count of three, you fall back into their arms without bending or trying to catch yourself. That’s the Trust Fall.
Now, take your situation. A small or large situation. Something minor or something major. Something menial or something life-shattering. Now without trying to catch yourself, without trying to hang by a thread, let yourself go. Fall into His arms. Fully trust Him with your life. Your situation. And your mind-altering circumstances.
Proverbs 3:5 MSG
Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Do you believe your friend’s word on that Trust Walk? Do you trust your friends on that Trust Fall?
Challenge of the Week
James 2:18 MSG – But someone may say, “You [claim to] have faith and I have [good] works; show me your [alleged] faith without the works [if you can], and I will show you my faith by my works [that is, by what I do].” So be it!
