If you had a productive week, all week, Monday through Friday, you may be considered a powerhouse. Truth is, even if your week wasn’t productive. Even if you don’t know that you are. You are a Powerhouse. How about we start today like a powerhouse, with words of encouragement?
Powerhouse (noun):
Attributes of a Powerhouse
When I think of someone who is a powerhouse, I think of someone who will not be denied. Someone who gets things done. Someone who is living, or someone who has lost that, but wants to start living again. It was taken or stolen from you, and you want to feel alive again…or maybe even feel alive for the first time.
This is someone who does not entertain excuses. Excuses are roadblocks. Having excuses is living in the past. Living in the past is to dwell. To dwell is to be stuck. Not living.
A Powerhouse Faces Challenges Head-On
So whenever a challenge is presented, a powerhouse finds a way through it. When I think of this, it reminds me of Refrigerator Perry of the 1985 Super Bowl Champs, the Chicago Bears. Watch this:
Okay, as a Bear’s fan give me a break. I have to have something to look back to, albeit well over 30 years ago. And no one was as dramatic as the 1985-86 Bears!
You are a powerhouse too, no matter your season of life – a powerhouse employee, a powerhouse wife or husband, a powerhouse mom or dad! Did you not know that?
What A Powerhouse Does Not Mean
Let’s not misunderstand. I am not talking about someone who demands that everyone around them do as they say. Or someone who controls others because their own life is out of control. This is not someone who steps on others to get what they think they deserve. It’s not a micro-manager of others. These are not things of the Spirit of God.
And let me also say, it’s not someone who gets all wound up on Sunday, but on Monday and through the rest of the week there is no correlation or follow-through.
A Powerhouse Prevails
You are a Powerhouse as a follower of Christ. Do you know that you have within you the power and presence of Holy Spirit? That every-day-walking-around-kind-of-life with Jesus every step of the way with you?
2 Corinthians 4:7-9 MSG
But we have this precious treasure [the good news about salvation] in [unworthy] earthen vessels [of human frailty], so that the grandeur and surpassing greatness of the power will be [shown to be] from God [His sufficiency] and not from ourselves. We are pressured in every way [hedged in], but not crushed; perplexed [unsure of finding a way out], but not driven to despair; hunted down and persecuted, but not deserted; struck down, but never destroyed;
Now, this doesn’t mean you are not going to fall down. It doesn’t mean you won’t miss it. And it doesn’t mean you won’t mess up, get tripped up, or take a blow or two. We might not be perfect, and we do live in frail vessels – our earth suits. But we have a Refrigerator Perry in Jesus (can I say that). And He wants to give you life and accomplish His purpose through you!
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Active That Power
The key is taking God’s Word and making personal applications to our life – activating it. So, here are some simple steps to becoming a Powerhouse:
- Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior – He is Life (which is power)
- Believe God’s Word, believe what God’s Word says about you, and believe that God’s Word is alive in and through you (God’s Word has substance)
- Renew your life with God’s Word – this is essential (see previous step)
- Learn from God’s Word about your power and authority (do not be ignorant of this)
I personally believe you cannot move forward in your life, in your life away from your past, without those previous steps. Three key verses to use as a foundation in moving forward:
Romans 12:2 AMP
And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
2 Corinthians 4:16 NIV
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
Ephesians 4:20-24 MSG
But that’s no life for you. You learned Christ! My assumption is that you have paid careful attention to him, been well instructed in the truth precisely as we have it in Jesus. Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything—and I do mean everything—connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.
So today walk with confidence. Walk as the powerhouse that you are. Each step you take, you take for the Kingdom of God. Picture yourself, not to be denied, as Refrigerator Perry crossing that goal line. God designed you to pursue your gifts and your strengths in order to fulfill His purpose through your life. Not to be held captive by your past, or by any other powers or principalities!
Challenge of the Week:
Remember your ‘why’ (your purpose, your dreams). Know who you are in Christ. That powerhouse that you are in Him. And don’t be denied the plans God has for you. What is one step you can take toward this in the next seven days – that is your “to-do.” So be it!
