When You Think You Need One More Miracle

There are seasons when life feels like one long prayer. Not because you doubt God. Not because He isn’t working. But because every answer seems to uncover another impossible situation waiting around the corner. Have you ever lived there? It is when you think you need one more miracle.

When You Think You Need One More Miracle
God saw every domino. We only see the first of it.

You finally make it through one crisis only to discover another one standing in line. One miracle leads to another need. One answered prayer reveals another mountain to climb.

Exodus 14:14

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

For Carmen and me, this season wasn’t about getting to Florida anymore. We were already there. We had stepped into the new life we believed God had called us to. We had begun building relationships, opening our home to guests, and embracing this new chapter.

Then everything changed.

Our business back in Indiana needed us. Carmen returned first to stabilize it, and a few months later I joined her. We believed God was asking us to finish well before we could fully move forward.

But one enormous obstacle remained.

We had to sell our business.

The Impossible Deadline

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart…

Anyone familiar with small businesses knows they don’t normally sell overnight. Most take years. We had less than three months.

Everything inside me wanted to calculate the odds. Everything inside God simply asked us to trust Him.

At first, it looked promising.

A potential buyer expressed interest almost immediately. A few others reached out as well. We thought, “Maybe this is how God is going to do it.”

Then…Nothing.

Conversation after conversation faded away. Hope slowly gave way to disappointment. By the time I joined Carmen in Indiana that January, we were running out of both time and options.

It was during those anxious days that wise counsel pointed me back to something I had nearly forgotten.

“Go back to the first door God opened.”

Going Back to the First Door

Job 42:2 (NIV)

I know that You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.

Six months earlier, the first interested buyer had been a man named Tom.

The problem? Nothing had worked out. Negotiations stalled. Communication stopped. Six months had passed.

Every excuse flooded my mind.

  • “He’s moved on.”
  • “He’s not interested anymore.”
  • “You missed your chance.”

Isn’t it amazing how often fear speaks with such confidence?

Finally, I made the call. To my surprise, Tom wasn’t just willing to talk. He was eager. Within three weeks, everything came together.

The paperwork was signed. The transition began. The business that had consumed years of our lives now belonged to a wonderful Christian couple whom we trusted completely.

Only God could write a story like that.

I wish I could tell you that was the end. It wasn’t.

When God Reveals the Truth

Luke 8:17

For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.

One final lawsuit still hung over us. If you’ve ever…

  • been falsely accused…
  • had your integrity questioned…
  • loved people deeply only to be hurt in return…

Then you know how exhausting that can become.

Carmen and I had reached the end of ourselves. So we did the only thing we knew to do. We prayed. Not polished prayers or desperate prayers. But, “Lord…show us the truth.”

Then something incredible happened. While reviewing old payroll records, Carmen discovered what no one else had seen. The facts didn’t support the accusations against us.

In fact, the evidence showed the exact opposite. God hadn’t changed the truth. He simply revealed what had been there all along.

When the hearing finally came, even that unfolded differently than expected. Instead of sitting across a conference table from those accusing us, the hearing took place over the phone.

Another unexpected mercy. As the evidence was presented, the entire case shifted. The ruling went in our favor.

When the call ended, Carmen and I just looked at each other. Then we laughed. Not because lawsuits are funny. And, not because the journey had been easy. But because relief has a sound.

Sometimes Joy Sounds Like Laughter

Psalm 126:2–3

“Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’ The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

We hugged our attorney, walked out of the office, climbed into our car, and immediately started driving to Florida.

There was no celebration or delay, just gratitude. Looking back now, here’s what amazes me most.

God Was Already Ahead of Us

We arrived in Florida on March 14, 2020. One week later…The world shut down.

COVID changed everything.

Had any one piece of our story been delayed – selling the business, resolving the lawsuit, closing the transition, or making the drive – we could have found ourselves stranded between two states with no clear future.

At the time, every delay felt frustrating. Now I see they were perfectly timed. Isn’t that often how God’s faithfulness works?

While You’re Waiting…

Ephesians 3:20

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…”

  • While we’re asking Him for the next miracle…He’s arranging ten details we don’t even know exist.
  • We’re praying about today’s obstacle. He’s preparing tomorrow’s provisions.
  • We’re focused on the closed door. He’s already working several rooms ahead.

I don’t know what “one more miracle” you’re waiting for today.

Maybe it’s a job. A relationship. Healing. Financial provision. A restored family. Or simply enough strength to make it through another week.

Can I encourage you with something?

Don’t assume God’s silence means He’s absent. Don’t mistake waiting for inactivity. And don’t confuse delays with denial.

  • The God who opened the Red Sea also determined when it would open.
  • The God who raised Lazarus also chose the fourth day.
  • And the God who orchestrated our story was already preparing us for a pandemic we didn’t even know was coming.

Maybe He’s doing the same for you. You may think you’re waiting for one more miracle. But perhaps God is preparing you for your next chapter.

And one day, when you look back, you’ll realize His timing wasn’t just good. It was perfect.

Sometimes the miracle you’re waiting for is really God preparing you for the next chapter of your story.

Isaiah 46:9–10

“I am God, and there is no other… I make known the end from the beginning… My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”

Challenge of the Week

Where in your life are you waiting for “one more miracle”? Instead of asking, “God, why aren’t You moving?” Maybe ask, “Lord, what are You preparing me for that I can’t see yet?” You may discover that while you’ve been waiting on Him…He’s been lovingly arranging every detail of your story, and you didn’t even know it. So be it.
